Last week, Nortek announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire a 25% stake in MiOS Limited, and the partnership has already released its first collaborative system.
Home Controls carries several Nortek product lines, including NuTone and Nortek Security & Controls – which includes Linear, GoControls, M&S Systems, OpenHouse, 2GIG and ChannelPlus. The MiOS Vera product line is also available at Home Controls.
“Nortek’s investment in MiOS solidifies a long-term relationship that we expect will benefit both of our companies,” said Nortek President and Chief Executive Officer Michael J. Clarke. “MiOS has an excellent IoT platform and global development capabilities, which we intend to utilize to develop lifestyle-driven solutions for the connected home across many of our businesses. MiOS will work primarily with our Broan-NuTone business as well as Nortek Security & Controls and Core Brands to develop these solutions for several of our customer segments including builders, electricians, and installing dealers.”
Yesterday, Nortek’s Core Brands has released an update to it ELAN Software that includes VeraEdge support. With this new driver, ELAN dealers can connect a VeraEdge to an ELAN network for integrated control of select third-party Z-Wave devices, including lights, door locks and thermostats. VeraEdge can be located in the optimal location in the home to communicate with the Z-Wave devices.
“For Core Brands, MiOS creates opportunities to complement many of our Core Brands solutions, particularly those driven by our ELAN Control Platform,” Core Brands President Joe Roberts wrote in an email announcement.
Nortek’s minority investment will provide growth capital for product development including personnel.
MiOS President, Lew Brown commented, “We are excited to partner with Nortek who shares our passion for the future of MiOS. Nortek has developed a highly respected platform and we see great opportunities to leverage Nortek’s products, brands, distribution channels and customer relationships to drive growth for both our companies.”
