HAI Updates Home Theater Extender – Offers iPhone Control!

JTX2

Home Controls is  now shipping the second generation of the Home Theater Extender 2 (the HTX2) from HAI.  The new HTX2 allows for audio/video control using iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch (iOS devices) integrated with HAI’s Snap-Link Mobile application and an HAI home control system.  Additionally, Mobile Designer software allows for the customization of A/V interfaces on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

HAI’s Home Theater Extender 2 (HTX2), part number 86A00-2, works with HAI’s Snap-Link Mobile to control audio/video equipment.  The iOS device sends the command to the HTX2, which controls the A/V equipment using serial ports, IR ports, and SPDT relays.  Over 300,000 IR codes are built-in, and additional codes may be added using the IR Learner.

Interface designs for iOS devices can be customized using HAI’s HTX2 Mobile Designer software.  HAI provides generic templates that can be customized for TV’s, Blu-Ray players, A/V receivers, satellite/cable boxes, tuners, etc.  Advanced users can design their own templates, or purchase templates from HAI or third-parties.

The HAI HTX2 may also be used with OmniTouch 5.7e Touchscreens.  Customized A/V interfaces for HAI Touchscreens are developed using HAI’s Automation Studio, which is also used to configure the functionality of the HTX2.

“The ability to provide advanced audio/video control from our iPhone/iPad app is incredible, especially considering the price will remain the same” explains Jay McLellan, HAI President and CEO.  “Homeowners will now be able to change the channel on the TV, the temperature of the thermostat, and the security setting all from one hand-held application.”

HAI Talks iPad with Consumer Electronics Association

Greg Rhoades, Associate Director of Marketing for HAI, discusses the iPad’s impact on the home automation industry.

“Will the iPad kill touch panels? No. Lots of people will still want a dedicated machine to control their home – one that doesn’t go to the park or travel to the school library. One that can run multiple applications at once. One that allows the homeowner to immediately disarm their alarm system from a keypad, without having to wait for the app to load and connect. Also, if the glass is as fragile as my iPhone, which has shattered twice from minor drops, many people will desire the durability offered in a home control specific touchscreen.”

Home Controls is a member of TechHome, a division of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA).
