Silence Breeds Brilliance
Whether you take 10 minutes in the shower to think through the day’s possibilities or 30 seconds of silence in the elevator, that is when your most brilliant thoughts are sure to occur.
What if you spent even a single hour of dedicated time to think each week? An hour to yourself may sound unreasonable these days, but try thinking of it as an investment. The ideas you create in this time could net you hundreds of free hours in the future!
Pick some aspect of your business and think through every possibility imaginable. For me, it helps to open a blank Word document, write the topic in bold at the top of the page and then type just as fast as I can think. Idea, BOOM! < Enter> to the next line. Idea, BOOM! <Enter> to the next line.
Even awful ideas are typed. No time to think. Don’t let yourself edit. Just Type! Type! Type! After all, the worst idea on the planet may lead to something exceptionally innovative. Will we invent possibilities that are too expensive, impractical or downright ridiculous? Of course. But rarely will you escape a private brainstorming session without discovering something usable. It’s really pretty exciting, so schedule it in!
Multiple Perspectives
What I’ve learned about brainstorming is that just as soon as I’ve come up with every idea there could ever be on a topic, I talk to someone with a new idea. How can this be? I do not know. But I’m telling you that every individual has a unique perspective, distinctive brain power and creativity.
To truly uncover the most effective and profitable solutions to grow your business, sit down with a co-worker, partner, key employee or friend. This is your Brainstorm Buddy! Together you can shout out ridiculous ideas until brilliant and original solutions come forth. The most useful and effective solutions could never be imagined alone.
Never underestimate the value of brain power.
