Time to get creative, people!
Whether you’re blogging, emailing, advertising or branding, it takes more than a 1-line summary to catch the attention of your target audience.
Am I right? Think about which…
-
Blog posts you chose to read
-
Emails you actually open
-
Advertisements you stop to look at
-
Headlines that grab you
-
Company tag lines you remember
What do they all have in common? Titles, subject lines, tag lines etc. that jump out and strike you as different than the rest.
Easier said than done, I realize. Here are some tips to get you on the right path when you’re feeling blocked:
-
Write/design everything else first. Often something clever will come while you’re working on the rest of the project. Leave the subject or title for last.
-
Brainstorm. Write everything down you can think of, as fast as you can without stopping. Do not lift your pen from the paper (or fingers off the keys)! After a full 5 minutes you’ll find many silly or impractical ideas written down, but also some lines you can use.
-
Pick a favorite or memorable word. You can choose words that are universally effective in marketing, such as “Free” or “Special.” You can pick an unusual or descriptive word, such as “Juicy” or “Ka-BOOM.” Then fit a relevant idea together with your chosen word.
Most of all, have fun and catch some attention for your company’s message!

Some good tips here! It’s often really hard to think of that grabbing title line but it’s SO important to get it right.
You’re right, Neo. The “grabbing title line” is key! If the audience isn’t pulled in by your title, why bother with the rest of your message? It won’t even be looked at!
